Head Coach/Team Manager: Ryan Taylor
What college are you from and what is your role
there?
I work as a sports and uniformed public services lecturer at Coleg
Gwent, Usk Campus based in South Wales. I am also responsible for
the Men's Football Development Centre at the college.
Who have been the biggest influences on your
playing/coaching career so far?
Fortunately, I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of
coaches in my relatively short coaching career so far both in a
playing and coaching capacity. All of which have had a considerable
impact on the way I coach and play the game. I would say my passion
for football was developed and initiated through my father who was
fortunate enough to have had a career has a professional footballer
and was coached by the likes of Steve Coppel & Jack Charlton,
hence the advice he provides is always an invaluable insight into
the game.
When did you decide that coaching was a career path that
you wanted to follow?
I have been coaching since 2004 when I attended University, where I
had the opportunity to deliver sessions under the guidance of
several experienced and highly qualified coaches. This is where I
developed my initial passion for coaching and I decided to focus
primarily on this element of the game ever since.
What is your coaching philosophy?
My philosophy encompasses one key component, which is that all
players should be able to learn and develop as players whilst
working in an enjoyable yet professional environment. With regards
to the style of football that I like my teams to play, I would
definitely say I have been influenced by continental teams due to
their ability to retain possession and also by the way they are
able to control and dominate games by recognising the importance of
patient build up play.
