BCS Rugby Finals at Sixways Stadium
Sixways Stadium played host to the BCS/RFU Conference and also 3
great cup finals.
With poor weather
conditions leading up to the finals day, there could have been a
few issues with the pitches at Sixways Stadium but the weather held
off and the grounds men at Sixways provided fantastic play field
for the finals to go ahead.
In the morning, the BCS Mens Rugby
Plate Final (Hills Road College 1sts v Gower College 1sts) took
place on the back pitch alongside the BCS Mens Rugby Cup Final
(Brockenhurst College 1sts v Myerscough College 3rds) on the main
pitch. In the BCS Mens Plate Final between Hills Road College 1sts
and Gower College 1sts (
left). Gower came out on top with a
convincing win against Hills Road beating them 60-12. The BCS Mens
Cup Final saw Brockenhurst College 1sts put out an excellent
performance to overcome the strong North West team, Myerscough
College 3rds, with the final score ending up 43-5 to Brockenhurst
College (right).
These two games watered the appetite for the final game of
the day, the BCS Elite Mens Cup Final between Myerscough College
and Coleg Sir Gar (below) who were also met each other in the 2011
Elite Cup Final. Myerscough College 1sts started like a house on
fire converting two tries to go 14-0 up. Coleg Sir Gar managed to
snatch a penalty before half time to start the ball rolling for
them making it 14-3 at half time. This penalty proved to be very
important towards the later stages of the game. The second half was
a much cagier affair with no points scored in the earlier stages of
the second half, but Coleg Sir Gar started to raise their game
scoring a try to make it 14-8. However a quick response from the
Myerscough team made the score 21-8 giving them a strong lead. Sir
Gar then went on to receive a yellow card, taking them down to 14
players as well as their hopes of win
ning. With 3 minutes to go Sir Gar
managed to turn it around and muster up another attack and a
converted try making it 21-15 closing the points difference between
themselves and Myerscough. Another converted try by Coleg Sir Gar
meant the final score was 21-22 with Coleg Sir Gar taking the BCS
Men Elite Cup out of Myerscough's hands at the last minute bringing
an end to a smashing game of rugby.
