STRUCTURE OF BCS
BCS is a membership organisation representing the sporting
interests of students and Further Education Colleges across the
whole of the UK.
Each member college has a representative on their regional
committee from which democratic decisions are made on the
organisation of sport on a local, regional and national
level.
Working with AoC, FFORWM and other bodies British Colleges Sport
is now at the forefront of decision making and lobbying for college
sport on a regional, national and UK wide basis.
BCS became a company limited by guarantee in August 2011 after a
vote by member colleges at an EGM held during the BCS/AoC Sports
Conference. The formation of the new company will enable BCS
to move forward and help cement the relationship between BCS and
the AOC. As part of the FE Sports Strategy, BCS is now responsible
for the following strands of college sport.
- Support
to colleges to deliver Intra-College events, and the management and
delivery of a full programme of intra and inter-College competition
including leagues, cups, regional and national
championships.
- The development of a
vibrant leadership and volunteering programme with deployment
opportunities available for students on a local, regional and
national level.
- Partnerships with National
Governing Bodies of Sport and programmes to support their sports
specific plans.
'Sport has a major contribution to make in sustaining healthy
lifestyles and promoting successful learning in Colleges.
Working together BCS and AoC have begun to build a concerted voice
for sport in Colleges, promoting engagement with Sport England and
sport's National Governing Bodies and redressing, at least
partially, the effects of funding cuts for FESCOs. There is
more to do but a concerted voice will; I am sure, enable progress
to continue to be made'.

AoC
WHAT IS BCS MADE UP OF?
BCS is run by a board made up of Principals' and Senior Management
from the ten geographical regions.
Regions have their own Executive Committees, usually involving a
college principal and staff from affiliated colleges.
Each region looks after their own internal affairs and the
selection of their representative competitors in the National
Championships.
